Capped Bust / Capped Head types

The types of 2 1/2-dollar gold pieces minted during this period are the Capped Bust to Right, Capped Bust to Left, and the Capped Head to Left. Beginning in 1829 the $2.50 gold pieces were made smaller.
Mint dates: 1796-1834 ~ Minted at: Philadelphia ~ Variations: stars/no stars (1796), 13/14-stars (1804), overstrike/stars (1806), with motto/no motto "E Pluribus Unum" (1834).

Quarter Eagle,
Classic Head / Coronet types

In 1834, the Classic Head type featured ribboned hair instead of capped and was without the motto. It was minted through only 1839 when the quarter eagle was redesigned to the Liberty Head or Coronet type, to conform more with other U.S. gold coins.
Mint dates: 1834-1907 - Minted at: Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco ~ Variations: small/large date (1843), California gold (1848), old/new reverse design (1859-61).
