The major types of 5-dollar gold pieces minted during this period are the Capped Bust to Right, Small Eagle, Capped Bust to Right, Heraldic Eagle, Capped Bust to Left, and the Capped Head to Left. As with the quarter-eagles, half-eagles were also reduced in diameter in 1829.
Mint dates: 1795-1834 ~ Minted at: Philadelphia ~ Variations: 15/16 stars (1797), 13/14 stars (1798), "statesof" one word (1818), small/large letters (1820), 12/13 stars (1832), plus many numeral and mint date variations.

Half Eagles,
Classic Head / Coronet types
|
As with the quarter-eagle, the motto "E Pluribus Unum" was omitted from the smaller half-eagle in 1834. Due to the price of gold, the older, larger coins had become worth more than their face value of five dollars. The Classic Head type was minted through 1838, when the Liberty Head Coronet type was introduced in half-eagles.
Mint dates: 1834-1908 - Minted at: Carson City, Charlotte, Dahlonega, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco ~ Variations: small/large letters/date (1842-43), with motto above eagle (1866-1908), plus many numeral and mint date variations.
Gold Coins Buyer buys all "Classic" & "Coronet" type half eagles. |
