The Liberty $20 coins contain nearly one ounce of gold, and were designed by James Longacre, with a reverse design by Anthony Paquet appearing briefly.
Mint dates: 1849-1907 ~ Minted at: Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco ~ Variations: no motto (1849-1866), Paquet reverse (1861), with motto "In God We Trust" (1866-1907), value "TWENTY D." (1866-1876), value "TWENTY DOLLARS" (1877-1907), plus some numeral / mint date variations.

Saint-Gaudens type

Designed by Augustus St. Gaudens, this version of the twenty-dollar gold coin was a response to criticism that American coins were inferior in their appearance, supported by President Theodore Roosevelt. Thus the sculptor, Saint-Gaudens was hired to re-design both this and the gold eagle ($10) coins.
Mint dates: 1907-1933 - Minted at: Denver, Philadelphia, San Francisco ~ Variations: high relief/Roman numerals (1907), no motto/with motto (1908), 48 stars (1912 et seq.).
